Greening Bathurst

Boundary Road Reserve

Boundary Road ReserveThe Boundary Road Reserve is an 85 ha parcel of land in the Boundary Road, Hinton Road and Blayney Road area and is one of the largest patches of bushland in the Bathurst area.

The reserve contains a significant remnant of native yellow box/blakely’s redgum woodland which is an endangered ecological community.  The reserve is home to a number of native animal species including, eastern rosellas, kangaroos, swamp wallabies, jacky lizards, sugar gliders, echidnas and brown quail.

The reserve has been managed by the Boundary Road Reserve Landcare Group since 1997.  The group’s main aim is to enhance the ecological values and provide some passive recreational opportunities in the reserve.

Since 1997 the group has planted over 11,000 native trees and shrubs, built a 2.5 km walking track, provided interpretive signs for visitors to the reserve and undertaken weed and rabbit control.  The group has prepared a flora and fauna list, plan of management and fire management plan for the reserve.

The group has monthly working bees on the first Saturday of every month, a business meeting every three months and an Annual General Meeting every November.
