Greening Bathurst fully supports the members of the O’Connell community in their ongoing battle with Oberon Council and the RTA to save their Memorial Avenue of trees... full story.
Greening Bathurst Incorporated
Greening Bathurst is a volunteer community organisation that supports best practice in the management and conservation of vegetation across the Bathurst Regional Council area by advancing the implementation of the Bathurst Vegetation Management Plan (BVMP) and assisting in achieving the vision of the Plan.
GB recognises that well managed vegetation is critical to achieving sustainable development because of its strong influence on biodiversity, water quality and landscape character.
A Vision for Bathurst
Bathurst’s reputation as a pleasant and prosperous place to live and do business in will be enhanced by its recognition as a place of excellence in vegetation management.
Through active and collaborative Council leadership and high quality vegetation management, the city will have retained the character of its heritage core, its rural setting and outlook, while pleasant and sheltered suburbs will have been provided. All approaches to the city will be marked by distinctive gateway vegetation themes.
Substantial areas of native woodlands on the hills will be by supported by healthy ecological processes and retain a varied and valued sample of native fauna. They will be linked to the Macquarie River and its tributaries by a web of corridors based on streamlines, cycle ways, roadsides and other corridors. The Macquarie River itself will be a focus of community pride in a setting provided for by the restoration of the native riparian vegetation.
